Obama's had a good week!
In my opion anyway. First, came the Ryan budget plan which basically eliminates Medicare over time in favor of coupons for health care. Yes! That's it, Republicans! Take one of the most popular government programs and eventually get rid of it, but first say that you aren't going to do it for years down the road in an effort to placate current seniors. Except that seniors likely won't want to see Medicare go away for anyone and now you've pissed off the 40-55 year olds. And don't forget to include ANOTHER tax cut for the wealthy.

Then when Obama invites you to sit in the front row of his budget speech, make sure you go so that you be right there when he bitchslaps your plan and says "Not while I'm President!" about the Medicare phase out part.

Even conservatives are saying that Ryan led the way to Obama's comeback.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/theweek/20110413/cm_theweek/214182

Then he triumphantly came to Chicago, was caught on an open mic saying not so nice things about Republicans (particularly Paul Ryan),
and then his spokesman basically says that he doesn't have to take back any of it.

ABC News

And to finish things off, he issues a signing statement with the budget compromise bill saying that he's keeping the czars, dammit!

ABC News

Like I said, good week for Obama, bad week for Republicans.

the good:
multi-family building and remodeling are both growing
stock market has been going gangbusters for a year
companies are sitting on huge sacks of cash
inflation has stayed low

the meh:
commercial real-estate seems to have bottomed out, but growth is very slow
retail sales are up, but only barely once gas prices are factored out
hiring is still weak, but trends are up

the bad
single family home building is still in the shitter
going to be a load of foreclosures hitting the market in the next 12-18 months as the robo-signing mess gets cleared up

"It's all about the economy, stupid"
More economic good news than bad and trend lines all tending positive means that the GOP may well have already hit it's anti-Obama high water mark.

Not only that, but the Republicans have given Obama an issue to run on with this "replace Medicare with vouchers and give more tax breaks to the rich" plan. They not only touched the third rail, they willingly grabbed a hold of it with both hands. And they know this because they ran on "OMG! Obamacare cuts Medicare!" stuff last year. They claimed to be the saviors of Medicare last year and now they are running on killing it.

I forgot to mention previously that Donald Trump is talking about running as as independent next year. You might as well re-inaugurate Obama now and get it over with, IMO.

Just calling it as I see it. This is the GOP's Waterloo.

You do realize that Obama is cutting Medicare by about the same amount over the same time don't you? And if his reform plan would actually work like he said it would, getting those on Medicare on the privates through the same mechanism he proposed for the uninsured would work. His speech on Wednesday was actually an admission, not a platform. Both ideas pretty much suck balls for Medicare sustainability.

As for his "good week"

I am sorta surprised the congressional teabaggers haven't made a fuss about this. Are they worried that one of our "journalists" will ask them what Obama should have done to keep gas prices low?

The general public doesn't think that way.....whoever is in charge is the one to blame. (See oil spill cleanup, post katrina etc. etc.)

So why are they pointing out gas prices every time someone points a microphone that way?

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/CN/W

Price of corn has doubled in the last 12 months

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/CT/W

Price of cotton has gone up 200% in the last 12 months

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/ZW/W

Price of wheat up about 50% in the last 12 months

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/RB/W

Makes the 35% increase in the price of unleaded gas seem tame in comparison!

But the NY Fed Chairman is not worried about inflation. After all, "Today you can buy an iPad 2 that costs the same as an iPad 1 that is twice as powerful,"

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/11/us-usa-fed-dudley-ipad-idUSTRE72A4AC20110311

Well then, HONEY BADGER'S GOING SHOPPING BITCHES!

Who knows...you're talking politicians here. If gas prices are $5 per gallon as many are predicting at election time I'm thinking someone will bring it up.
