I guess it is appropriate to resurrect this old thread now that it really does mean something 6 plus years later.

My thought is...

"What could have been..."

What the heck did this mean? Inside jokes are even more annoying when you don't remember them any more.

at the time I would have thought "throw in" as "thrown in with the Hawks" kind of like a gift with purchase. it's quite obvious that's what they were.

Kind of reminds me of a line from "Slapshot," i.e. "We were never anything but some rich broad's tax write-off."

To me, the first thing that comes to mind is...

Wasted opportunities.

I think of my son's childhood.

He went to his first Thrashers game just before his 3rd birthday and we had season tickets for the first 8 seasons - he missed a total of around 8 home games in that time.

We went to the 1st season ticket holder event to show off Philips, and he put a slapshot into the goal, while standing on the red carpet with his little cut-down Thrasher's souvenir stick

When the Thrashers drafted Kovalchuk, the article in the AJC had a great action shot of Christian taking a slapshot at the fan party with a caption "The Thrashers should keep an eye on 5-year old Christian Peterson, who was showing fine form at the draft party"

Hnatt Domenichelli (his favorite player) snuck up behind him at a season ticket holder meet and greet his mom could get a picture after Christian was too shy to speak with him earlier

When he was old enough to go to the Thrashers hockey camps, he went every summer and was coached by Darren Elliot and Uncle Bob Harley - spent time on the ice and in the weight room with various players and had Modry teach him how to do backwards cross-overs.

We did many of his birthday parties at games with batches of his friends - one year he got to light the pre-game birdhead one year and another year got to be youth hockey player of the game, stood by Mellanby, got swatted on the *** by Kovalchuk and had his head patted by Sutton

We went to the All-Star game and sat right behind Savard's sons during warmups

We've gotten to sit in the Bank of America box a couple times a year for the last few years - particularly cool because it's his infant day care teacher who now handles events at Bank of America who we go with.

He still loves to watch hockey, but as a 13 year old, serious about soccer and tennis, with homework, school activities and girlies he's ending up leaving the Thrashers behind as part of his childhood.

Good stuff. It sucks that in 5-10 years you guys won't be able to say, "Hey, let's go to the Thrashers game like we used to," but you got this which is pretty cool.

Well said indeed.

We too had season tickets from day one. We did not renew following the lockout. We also had season tickets for The Flames. I attended Flames summer hockey camps and summer leagues.

Because of the Thrashers and because I played/play hockey as well, JG.v.16 and JG.v.13 are/and have been involved in the travel hockey program since 2001. Both played ceremonial games (between the periods) at Philps and at Gwinnett. Both also played regulation games at both locations.

Lots of great memories and lots of great times.

*sigh*

All I can say is that thanks to the karmic combo of Ray Ferraro doing his Thrashers weekly update gig on 99x and Shannonie's coworker giving out free tickets, a HUGE new chapter to my life began on March 22, 2000 when she and I went to our very first ever hockey game. The last 11 years have been filled with great times at the Bulb (and on many road trips), great times on the ice as I started skating in 01 and playing in 02 (aka redneck girls on ice), and most importantly, I have some of the most wonderful people in my life that I would have never met had it not been for Thrashers hockey. At least the last 2 parts will remain...
