I'm in an all electric house now.

Suck it, Natural Gas Thread!

Enjoy your cold showers, Clyde.

Haven't had one yet. In fact, I get hotter water quicker than I did in my NG house.

so bite me

Sorry, I thought you had daughters and a wife.

A daughter and a "wife".

Showers (and a bath for the little one) are nice and warm, thank you.

We can also run the dishwasher at the same time.

This month's advice is "Don't lock now".

No hurry. Prices announced next week should be the same or lower than this month. If we continue with no hurricane action in the gulf, prices announced in October could be a fair amount lower than current prices.

Reiterate: Don't lock now!

Natural Gas for winter delivery is down 30% in the last 3 weeks. Let it float for now. Do not even think about locking before Halloween.

Most companies let you out for $50. Wait at least until new prices come out in October.

I thought I did well to lock in at .99/therm. I may have to rethink that next month.

This seems like a good time to lock.

Prices are at their lowest levels in quite a while, and since these prices were filed at the PSC the price of wholesale natural gas has risen substantially. The increase is mostly due to short covering IMO and will reverse itself, but in order to lock in some relatively good prices before the winter starts you might as well pull the trigger now.

The .689 or whatever from GNG is good for the first month only on their variable plan. Don't get suckered.

The 12-month fixed rate from GNG is .939, and the 6-month fixed rate is .949. If it was me I would choose the 6 month plan. That will enable you to play the game again next summer/fall without a penalty.

So here it is: This month's recommendation is lock with GNG for 6 months!

Full disclosure.....A competitor of theirs is a client of mine so this is not shilling for a client.

We are $.799/therm this month for variable and $1.059 for 12 month fixed. Needless to say I wouldn't recommend us this go around.

Just be sure to consider all of the other costs involved in changing. There probably is a signup fee, and your old company will have a penalty fee if you get out before the contract is up. Also, the CS fee varies per plan.

I stayed with my current company, SCANA, but changed to a 6-month deal. Based on my usage history, it would still cost me less to do this than change to another company and pay additional fees.

Chart shows weekly nearby natgas futures - red line iis at the end of September - chart shows tendency for prices to bottom then in some years, and this appears to be one of those years.

lock it

You're allowed to change gas marketers one every 12-months for free.

I locked in with my provider (Walton EMC) at $.999. They only had 12-month plans, unfortunately. A buck a therm, though, seems a decent price. At least it makes the math simple.

correct. I was variable with GNG, and just locked the 6 month rate (.949) last week. No charge. If I bail out during the next six months they hit me with a $50 penalty.

If I do a 6 month fixed at .949 that takes me into April, when gas usage should drop. Is that better than .939 for 12 months, since they might go lower in the late spring and summer

Do a 6 month to take you in to May. Gas usage will drop off then.
