Queston about your bill; I switched to Gas South and knew there would be the following charges: Gas South gas usage Gas South service charge (quoted up front on all comparison sites) Atlanta Gas Light charges (these are standard for use of AGL infrastructure) Taxes But this one surprised me AGL Dedicated Design Day Capicity Charges (DDDC) ???? I don't recall these DDDC charges being included on my Scana bills however, I can't sign into my old Scana account to look at an old bill. These charges are billed at a rate of 1.793 and accounted for an additional $12.19 on my last bill. Anyone else getting hit with the same charge by their providers? |

quote:The DDDC is not a charge, in and of itself, per se. The DDDC is supposed to be a relative measure of how much gas the Gas Company expects you to use to heat your house on the coldest day of the year. It's a way to give them an idea how much gas your house uses over all. The Gas Company, in turn, uses the DDDC to charge you additional money, because your demand for the product is higher than some others.. They re-evaluate your DDDC anually, so if you keep your gas usage low (relatively speaking), you'll see the DDDC drop. I got screwed the first year I was in my house. Somehow, the brand new gas meter that they installed on my brand new house was already somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 cubic feet, instead of the initial factory setting of zero. So, when my first gas bill came, (which only covered a 3-day period, btw), They billed me for 80 therms. When I called them to "discuss" it, they refused to back down on the charges, saying it was a new meter, and thus, had to have started at zero. They didn't stop to think that there was no way a one-story, 1,500 sq foot house could use 80 therms in 3 days, short of a gas leak. I think my DDDC was over 2.0 for the rest of the year. My gas bills were AWFUL. |

If you haven't locked, DON'T DO IT BEFORE JANUARY 6th! The natural gas market has come down significantly in the last few weeks, but it won't be reflected in marketers' prices until the new rates come out next month. |

quote: No, January 6 is almost 11 months away. As far as gas prices go, I'm thinking we will see the low for the year either late February or mid March. The prices would be reflected in marketer's rates in March or April. Stay tuned. |

Number one, I would go ahead and fix. You may not catch the absolute lowest price of the year, but you'll protect yourself against any astronomical increases that would result from a protracted heat wave this summer and the possibility of hurricanes disrupting supply. I believe the upward risk is greater than the potential benefit of price decrease. It looks to me that Catalyst and Coweta-Fayette EMC have the best current pricing. Gas Key is running a promotion that waives the customer service fee for a few months, which would make them cheapest if you can still get the deal. Gas South is a client of mine, so I can get you a 2 cent discount off the posted rate if you just happen to like the name or something. Their current pricing isn't good enough for me to recommend, though. Catalyst also has an interesting program. For an increased monthly fee (depending on your usage) you can get the variable rate, but cap it at the current fixed rate. This allows you to benefit if prices drop dramatically while protecting you on the upside. The higher monthly fee doesn't really justify the program at today's prices, though. If you just want to sign up with somebody and forget about it for a year, I'd go with Coweta-Fayette EMC. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. |

quote: I would let it ride for a month and see what gas does. We had another big player who doesn't understand risk management (Bank of Montreal) melt down last week. They pushed prices up by trying to cover some short positions. I believe the NG futures market is set up for a fall this month, but BOM's positions need to be unwound first. I think you'll get better pricing after June 5. Just cross your fingers for no early hurricanes. |

quote: Good timing. This may be the month you should do it. Wait until August 29 and ask again. You have a free option for a few days at that point before the marketers reset prices on Sept 5. Futures prices had come down substantially, but went back up the last couple of days on hurricane fears from some weather models. If the storms don't pan out, prices could fall by the end of the month, which would mean you should wait til after the new prices come out on Sep 5. Circle your calendar for Aug 29 and ask again. No rush to do anything at all til then because you'll be on a cheap summertime variable rate for now. |
