Humanitarian Award renamed to honor Dan Snyder
http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/news/?sub=&id=790

The Ontario Hockey League Board of Governors today announced that the OHL Humanitarian of the Year award has been renamed the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy in recognition of the former Owen Sound Platers captain who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in September.
"This is a fitting tribute to a young man who epitomized what it means to be a good citizen," said OHL Commissioner David Branch. "He was a role model on the ice where he consistently overachieved. More importantly, Dan was a role model off the ice for the young people in the Owen Sound community and everywhere he went. He is sorely missed by the entire Ontario Hockey League and we are truly honoured to be able to recognize him each year with the OHL Humanitarian of the Year award."

Snyder, who played four seasons with Owen Sound, was twice named his team's humanitarian of the year in recognition of his tremendous efforts in supporting community activities.

Born on February 23, 1978 in Elmira, Snyder was taken in the 7th round of the 1995 OHL Priority Selection by Owen Sound. He was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999. Snyder won an International Hockey League championship with Orlando in 2001 and an American Hockey League championship with Chicago in 2002. He scored 10 goals in 36 games with the Thrashers last season.
