OK I posted this over on the official boards as well.

So you want to see the real official NHL figures for ticket revenue? Because they were leaked last year to a Toronto newspaper. These are some of the same figures Levenson and all the other owners look at and the Players Union get as part of the CBA. Keep in mind the players union can sue the NHL if they try to fudge on these numbers so they are more accurate than
anything else out there.

First here is a link to the leaked numbers if you want to take a look for yourself.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/v5/content/pdf/NHLweb.pdf

So let's take a look shall we?

2005-06 Thrashers per game gate revenue (after taxes)
$490,000 Atlanta 26th out of 30 team (Toronto was 1st with 1.5 million per game, three times the revenue of Atlanta) Only four teams finished lower: WAS, CHI, TBL.

2006-07 Thrashers per game revenue (after taxes)
$490,000 Atlanta ranked 22nd out of 30 turns (Toronto on top again at $1.51 million)

Average Ticket prices paid.
2005-06
$32.27 30th out of 30 NHL teams. Nobody had a lower average ticket price paid than us (keep in mind this is both season ticket holders and discounted single game tickets combined together).

2006-07
$37.27 29th out of 30 NHL teams. A $5 jump only moves us up one spot as the other bottom teams like Pittsburgh raised their prices as well.

Folks these are the REAL ticket revenue numbers.

Now if you're thinking "heck I pay a lot more than that!" you're probably right--but once you factor in all the heavily discounted tickets it brings the average down significantly. Which is precisely the point I've been arguing for a couple of weeks now--that the season ticket holders are actually being penalized for buying in bulk before the season even starts.

Ah so when Bruce tells us that the Thrashers have the lowest ticket prices in the league, he is talking about all the ultra-cheap promotional tickets, not the actual paid season tickets?

Awesome.

Stats 101--> the mean and median can be very different numbers, depending upon the distribution.

If the average price paid for a ticket in Atlanta is $37 and you sell one ticket at of price of $10 then that means the other ticket MUST be priced at $64 to produce an average of $37.

If you sell upper bowl seats for $30 combined that means you need to sell another pair of seats for $118 combined to end up with an average ticket revenue of $37.

I'm all over that shit. Between website dealies and donating 4 cans of soup I got 6 tickets for $20 for the Flames game.

exactly. i was thinking a bit about this over the weekend and the number that can be given for the average ticket are horribly skewed in this city.

the first thing that kills the "average" are the 10$ seats. i like them, but keeping them around gets everyone else paying higher ticket prices.

and then there's the corporate gifts.

Nice tie. Is that your natural hair color? Impressive, I would have thought owning this trainwreck would have turned it white or you would have pulled it out by now.

Change the team colors and then offer the STHs (kinda makes ya think of STDs doesn't it?) 50% in the team swag store. They'll be all over it like flies on shit.

tickets that aren't exactly paid for - how do those figure into the averages.

Yeah and based on his red bulb, it looks like Johnny Walker is helping him do a whole lot of that lifting.

Can you point me to these corporations that get free tickets to hand out, please? I don't much like sitting in boxes, or on the Club Level at all for that matter, but if there are companies handing out good tickets that they don't have to pay for, I'd really like to get in on it.

There's always a stack of them in our copy room, right next to the fancy-schmancy color printer.
