Torchetti now officially part of Ramsey's staff The other shoe officially drops regarding John Torchetti http://thrashers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=534035 I like having him here to complement Ramsey, but I'm still perplexed as to why he'd be interested in coming here under the circumstances. This would appear to be a lateral move coming FROM the Stanley Cup champions to a team with zero tradition and heritage? Not that I'm trying to chase him away, but what does he have to gain from this arrangement? |

not a clue about that unless they offered him a significant amount of money abouve what he was making in chicago. but the real question is what the heck is the difference between an associate coach and an assistant couch... ive never managed to figure it out.. |

He's not 'Associate Coach' - he's associate HEAD coach. I heard that they wanted Torchetti to be head and Ramsay assistant buy Boston wouldn't let Ramsay leave for a lateral move. I'm guessing Torchetti's in charge of Offense and Ramsay runs Defense and they are both 'head coaches' - but Ramsay gives the post game pressers and does the media. |

makes a lot more sense than a straight lat move. should be interesting to see how they divide things up. wish i could make it down to watch practices and such |

In my 30+ years of following this sport, I've never heard of such an position. Have there been other associate head coaches? Are things so fucked up this team needs two? |

quote: Maybe it's just a title thing. You know there's been other assistants throughout the years who have had more control than their title would suggest. Probably happening right now. Call him assistant, associate; semantics to me. We know Ramsay is a good teacher, and excellent at defense. Bit soft spoken as well. Let Torchetti run the offense, and light the fire under asses when needed. Two good coaches who work together (hopefully in this case) are better than a control-freak and one or two yes-men. |

I don't ever recall a professional sports team achieving success with co-head coaches. Never. |

Dont know bout the co-head coach shit, but, both coaches are quality imo. We'll see if they can eliminate the piss-poor D we've had every year since our inception, the taking off half the game only to come back in the last period/few minutes BS. If they can do those 2 things, shiiiiiiiiiiit, we're a shoe-in for the playoffs. |
